S.C. legislators urged to let veterinary team members give rabies vaccinations
October 9th 2009Columbia, S.C. -- The South Carolina Association of Veterinarians (SCAV) is pushing state legislators to allow veterinary team members to give rabies vaccines. At present, only veterinarians can administer the vaccination to cats and dogs.
Cornell researcher is 1st veterinarian to win $2.5 million NIH award

Gates Foundation gift to help veterinarians fight rabies in Africa, Philippines
October 6th 2009Geneva, Switzerland -- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given almost $10 million to the World Health Organization to help fight rabies in Tanzania, South Africa and the Philippines using a plan developed at Scotland?s Glasgow University veterinary school.
Independent monitor to examine, report on Thoroughbred safety alliance
October 5th 2009Washington -- The National Thoroughbred Racing Association's (NTRA) Safety and Integrity Alliance has accredited 12 racetracks and established several uniform safety and integrity measures during its first year of operation, and now an independent monitor will examine its work and issue a report on its effectiveness.
Purina to donate horse feed to 'Extreme Makeover' families

More than 7,000 unwanted horses to receive donated rabies vaccine
October 2nd 2009Roseland, N.J. -- Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is donating 7,250 doses of EquiRab rabies vaccine to 150 equine rescue and retirement facilities nationwide, through the Unwanted Horse Veterinary Relief Campaign (UHVRC) in honor of the recent World Rabies Day.
