Don't rely on urine specific gravity measurement when a dog has received hetastarch
April 20th 2009Urine specific gravity (USG) and urine osmolality (UOsm) typically have a linear relationship; as USG rises, so does UOsm. However, some high-molecular-weight molecules such as albumin and iohexol have been shown to increase USG measurements in comparison to UOsm, thus altering the measurement relationship and possibly leading to an overestimation of urine concentration.
MSU veterinary researcher develops human vaccine for E.coli
April 17th 2009East Lansing, Mich. -- A researcher with Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Human Medicine has developed a working vaccine for enterotoxigenic E. coli, which is responsible for 60 percent to 70 percent of all E. coli diarrheal disease.
