UNION CITY, CALIF. —ABAXIS Inc. announces the release of VetScan™ VS2, an in-clinic veterinary diagnostic chemistry electrolyte and immunoassay instrument.

The VetScan VS2 uses proprietary Intelligent Quality Control (iQC) and provides comprehensive diagnostic information in minutes at the point of care with the push of a button.

The new platform is based around a high-resolution, full-color touch screen. This design offers the user simple menu-driven choices to run in an express mode or to quickly and easily change instrument settings, select from seven different languages, input customized species reference ranges; or perform a variety of other tasks.

The VS2 has the capability to run rotors in less than 10 minutes and will be able to accommodate advanced technologies for new rotors currently under development, the company says. Software upgrades can be carried out through a CD drive on the back of the unit, and the instrument can be remotely diagnosed in the field if required. The VS2 tells the user which rotor is being run and allows the run status to be followed by a simple progress bar.

The VetScan VS2 has accuracy from two drops of whole blood. VetScan reagents are packaged in single-use plastic rotors. Each reagent rotor contains a diluent and all the reagents necessary to perform a complete diagnostic work-up including electrolytes. Others rotors are available for monitoring the critically ill, routine wellness, pre-anesthetic testing, thyroid health screening, liver function testing and monitoring, equine, bovine and exotics.

Immediate results allow veterinarians to diagnose and begin treatment during one office visit and promote better medical care, the company says.
