The campaign has honored top working dogs for the last 12 years
American Humane has officially kicked off its 2023 Hero Dog Awards. This national competition searches are recognizing American working dogs that are going above and beyond to help their owners such as saving lives on battlefields, helping humans who cannot see or hear, or contributing to the well-being of people.
"The Hero Dog Awards help us to celebrate the strength, hope, and happiness that dogs bring to our lives," said Robin Ganzert, PhD, president and CEO of American Humane, in an organizational release.1 "Dogs are truly man's best friend, and like the voting public, we are captivated by the heartwarming stories of these courageous canines who show unconditional love to their human companions. It's only right that we host these awards to give these dogs the recognition they deserve."
According to the release,1 the categories for the 2023 awards are law enforcement and detection dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, military dogs, and rescue and emerging hero dogs. For the last 12 years, millions of votes have been cast across the United States with winners invited to a celebrity-filled gala that will be nationally broadcasted. Celebrities that have celebrated the winners in the past include Betty White, Jay Leno, Martin Short, Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, and more.
