Columbus Instruments introduces its larger Animal Activity Meter
Columbus Instruments introduces its larger Animal Activity Meter measuring1m x 1. The large scale "open field" activity uses modular infraredbeam sensors to create a large animal observation arena. Infrared beam spacingis 1 inch and there are 32 infrared beams on each side of the cage. Formeasuring horizontal activity, four sets of sensors are used. For measuringvertical activity (rearing) two additional sets of sensors can be installedabove the horizontal sensors. A plastic cage confines the animal withinthe observation arena, the company says. Windows® software allows trackinganimal position within the arena, measuring the time the animal enters andremains in user-designed zones, separation of large from small animal movements, separation of animal locomotor activity from other kinds of activities suchas grooming or scratching.
