The program aims to strengthen and diversify the veterinary industry
Banfield Pet Hospital announced it will double the number of students accepted to its NextVet internship program as it enters its third year of accepting interns. The NextVet internship program is designed to help diversify and strengthen the veterinary pipeline to help combat the chronic workforce shortage.
According to the organizational release,1 the program received over 500 applications from students with only 30 high school students selected for the program to gain paid work experience across 14 markets. Those that were chosen for the program will receive first-hand insights as to what it is like to work in the veterinary profession from practice leaders and Banfield Hospital associates.
"NextVet is part of our newly-stated commitment to Dream big, Do good, and Be here, and we're so proud to welcome the 2023 class of interns who are as passionate as our nearly 20,000 Associates about giving back to people, pets, and communities," said Melissa Marshall, vice president of people and organization at Banfield Pet Hospital, in the release.1 "NextVet plays an important role in shaping the future of veterinary care by creating pathways for the next generation and helping to create a more diverse and sustainable profession."
Along with the invaluable insights, the 30 students can also participate in paid volunteer opportunities alongside teammates.
