The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently registered Bayer Animal Health s K9 Advantix, a topical ectoparasite control product for mosquitoes, ticks and fleas on dogs. Sold only to licensed DVMs, K9 Advantix offers practitioners a new monthly topical for canine patients that protects against three of the most common parasites that afflict dogs and the vectors of many serious diseases and health conditions, the company says. New K9 AdvantixҪ is a genuine breakthrough for veterinarians and dog owners, says John Payne, president and general manager of the pharmaceutical company s Animal Health Division. Just killing ticks and fleas is no longer the standard for effective ectoparasite control. With the rapid spread of West Nile Virus in recent months, mosquitoes have become a significant concern to pet owners, the company says. Company research demonstrates K9 Advantix repels and kills up to 98.3 percent of mosquitoes and reduces their feeding up to 95.2 percent, the company adds.K9 Advantix contains imidacloprid and permethrin.
