J. M. Smucker has recalled specific lots of a canned cat food brand because of potential health issues associated with ingredients that did not meet quality and safety standards.
The J. M. Smucker Company has announced that it voluntarily recalled specific lots of its Special Kitty Mixed Grill Dinner Pate cat food due to concerns that it may contain ingredients that do not meet the company's quality and safety standards, according to a release from the company. This wet, canned cat food is sold individually and as part of variety packs.
Although no reports have been shared regarding cats becoming ill after eating the recalled food, the company notes in the release that ingestion of affected product may produce signs ranging from nausea with excessive salivation, diarrhea and vomiting to difficulty walking, seizures and, in extreme cases, death. Pet owners are encouraged to contact their cat's veterinarian immediately if their cat displays any of these signs.
Special Kitty products are sold online and in grocery stores nationwide. J.M. Smucker believes all affected product appears to have been manufactured during a single day, according to the release, although the company is continuing to investigate the situation to minimize the chance of future concerns.
