Animal health company, American College of Veterinary Behaviorists launch campaign at San Diego Zoo.

SAN DIEGO—Ceva Animal Health launched its Keep the L.O.V.E. Alive Behavior Express Tour 2012 at the San Diego Zoo on Aug. 2.

The L.O.V.E. acronym stands for “lean on veterinary expertise,” which is why Ceva, the maker of analog pheremone products Feliway and Adaptil, teamed up with the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB). Program organizers parked their tour bus in one of the world’s top zoos to spread awareness and reinforce the role of veterinarians in addressing pet behavior issues.

Throughout the evening event, San Diego Zoo keepers introduced rare animals to the crowd and educated attendees about their habits and characteristics. One guest, a New Guinea singing dog who’s one of just 500 left in the world, howled her heart out for her audience—and a tasty treat. A hyacinth cacaw, Eurasian eagle owl and fennec fox also made special appearances.

The Keep the L.O.V.E. Alive tour will feature a pet fair that’s free and open to the public in six more cities across the map. Each fair will feature board-certified veterinary behaviorists available to answer pet owners’ questions, educational booths staffed by local veterinarians, shelter booths with adoptable pets and free giveaways.

“Thousands of pets die needlessly each year because of untreated behavior problems,” says Debra Horwitz, DVM, DACVB, a tour educator. “ACVB and Ceva want pet owners to know there are medically sound options available from their local veterinarians to modify and treat these pets before it’s too late.”
