Intervet introduces Safe-Guard granules for horse deworming. The product is made in a pour-on granule form. The new formulation complements the companys existing paste formulation as well as any rotational deworming program.Intervet adds the product is both safe and efficacious, providing exceptional protection against internal parasites. Safe-Guard s active ingredient, fenbendazole, is a member of a group of compounds called benzimidazole that has excellent anthelmintic properties, the company says. Fenbendazole interferes with the energy metabolism of the parasite, killing it by starvation. The company adds the product is safe to use in all horses and ponies, including breeding stallions, pregnant mares, young foals and older debilitated animals. Safe-Guard granules is available in 22.2 percent formulation of fenbendazole. Each box contains two, 5.2 g foil packets. The granules mix well with any type of feed and two packets are all that are needed to deworm a 1,000-pound horse, the company adds.
