- The heading "veterinarians" this year comes in 14th out of more than 4,000 listings in the Yellow Pages, rising from the 15th spot.
Climbing to No. 14 means 171 million people let their fingers do the walking to the word "veterinarians" this year.
"The pet industry continues to show healthy growth," says Bob Vetere, president of the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association. "People are looking to pets for companionship in ever increasing numbers."
APPMA research shows 45 million U.S. households own a dog, 38.4 million own a cat, 14.2 million own freshwater fish and 6.4 million own a bird.
