These industry leaders offer expertise and advice in a fun and welcoming atmosphere

As 2024 winds down with the final Fetch dvm360® conference this month in Long Beach, California, we’re looking at what’s coming in the new year. Next up is Fetch Charlotte (March 14-16, 2025) in North Carolina, where a pair of dynamic speakers are scheduled to deliver keynote lectures: Joya Griffin, DVM, DACVD; and Philip Bergman, DVM, PhD, MS, DACVIM (Oncology).

Griffin is a practicing dermatologist at the Animal Dermatology Group in Louisville, Kentucky, and star of National Geographic Wild television’s Pop Goes the Vet With Dr. Joya. She is also a frequent Fetch presenter and delivered continuing education (CE) sessions the past 2 years at Fetch Charlotte.

“Fetch is such an intimate experience. You get to spend more time than [at] these mega conferences conversing with different attendees and colleagues. So that’s really enjoyable,” she said in an interview with dvm360.1

Griffin said she tried to present on topics that she thinks are going to be useful in day-to-day dermatology practice and that a general practitioner might see. “I’m hoping that I can make treating and diagnosing our kitties a little more fun and a little less daunting and that [attendees will] take a few tips and tricks back that [they] can utilize in practice. I think everybody needs an easier day,” Griffin said in the interview.1

Bergman is a practicing oncologist at VCA Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center in Bedford Hills, New York, and director of clinical studies for Mars Veterinary Health. He was instrumental in the development of the first DNA-based canine cancer vaccine and continues to serve as its principal investigator. The US Department of Agriculture–approved ONCEPT vaccine is indicated for canine melanoma.2

Bergman was one of 2 recipients of the 2023 Innovator of the Year Award, sponsored by Chewy Health. He and fellow recipient Ellen M. Carozza, LVT, VTS (CP-Feline), were presented with their awards at the past year’s Fetch Long Beach conference. “Dr Bergman is incredibly inspiring for all the work that he has done, for years and years, with pet cancer,” Katy Nelson, DVM, associate director of veterinary relations for Chewy, said during the presentation.2

At the 2024 Fetch Coastal conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Bergman presented 4 CE sessions. Topics included compounding pharmacies for chemotherapy agents, what’s new in lymphoma, mast cell tumors, and the top 10 recent advances in veterinary oncology. Those sessions are available for CE credit at the Fetch On-Demand website.
