Online program offers veterinary team members bachelor's degree in animal advocacy and shelter management.

If you're a veterinary team member who wants to gain credentials and advance your animal-care career, you might want to consider a bachelor's degree in humane leadership. Duquesne University offers an eight-week online program to those currently working in animal care and protection.

As the first online humane program in the country, the curriculum would help you take on a role-or a bigger role-in shelter management. Coursework includes fundraising and financial management aspects, dealing with human resource issues, developing and implementing effective communication, education, and outreach initiatives, as well as handing the psychological and emotional stress that comes from the high level of giving demanded by animal shelter work.

To earn the degree, students must complete 120 hours of coursework. The program does accept prior college credit, if approved by an advisor. Already hold a bachelor's degree? You can complete six of the major courses to receive a post-baccalaureate certificate.
