Two Dimensional and M-Mode Echocardiography for the Small Animal Practitioner CD-ROM by June A. Boon, cardiology services coordinator at Colorado State Universitys College of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences is now available. The new CD is a companion resource for the Made Easy Series book of the same title. It is designed to provide step-by-step visual instruction for the proper use of ultrasound in examination of dogs and cats. Important features include: normal and abnormal appearance of scans, demonstration of examination technique, proper placement of transducer shown using high quality videos, artifacts explained and exercises for self-testing of the user, regarding normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy and artifacts. Both congenital and acquired heart diseases are covered in detail.The CD contains 41 still images and 154 video clips depicting normal and abnormal findings, as well as common artifacts. One hundred twenty-four of these video clips demonstrate transducer orientation and positioning, using live models with insets depicting ultrasonographic findings. The CD constitutes an effective guide for the diagnosis of both acquired and congenital cardiac diseases.
