Franck's Pharmacy recalls sterile human and veterinary compounded prescriptions

Article

Environmental sampling of pharmacy's clean room revealed presence of microorganisms and fungal growth.

Franck’s Pharmacy has issued a recall of all sterile human and veterinary compounded prescriptions that were distributed dating back to November 21, 2011. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently notified the pharmacy, based in Ocala, Fla., that an environmental sampling of their clean room revealed the presence of microorganisms and fungal growth, which presents a possible risk of infection and subsequent patient illness.

Anyone in possession of these sterile preparations should discontinue their use and destroy any remaining quantities. Any adverse events that have resulted from the use of these recalled products should be reported immediately to Franck’s Pharmacy and FDA’s MedWatch program.

Questions regarding the recall should be directed to Franck’s Pharmacy at (352) 690-6773, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
