-- Frontier Airlines is the latest commercial carrier to offer services catering to pet owners.

The Denver-based airline company announced May 12 that customers now can bring their pets on board for an additional $75 fee each way. Pets included in the new policy include small dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and small household birds. All animals must fit in a carrier that can be stowed under airplane seats and have proper documentation of good health. Other airlines have enacted similar policies, though they were focused rimarily on small dogs and cats.

"We have spent a lot of time listening to our customers and determining what would make their travel experience even better," said Ian Arthur, vice president of marketing and branding for Frontier. "We received a lot of feedback on our pet policy and determined that pets would be a welcome addition to the Frontier travel experience."

Frontier also will offer pet travel services for larger pet, like dogs weighing more than 20 pounds. They will be considered "checked baggage," and can travel for a $150 fee, says Frontier.

In addition to allowing small pets in the cabin, Frontier also accommodates larger pets as checked baggage. Pets weighing more than 20 pounds, who do not fit the pets-in-cabin requirements, may be checked for a $150 fee.
