The product is an effective way to control oozing bleeding during surgery, the company says.
Vetspon can be used during veterinary surgeries and dental procedures. The sterile, water-insoluble product is available in flex absorbable and dental absorbable hemostatic gelatin sponge varieties. The product can be cut to fit the exact shape needed for procedures spanning from tumor removals, biopsies, tooth extractions and spay/neuter procedures.
The product minimizes blood loss for the patient and allows the veterinarian to operate in a dry, visible surgical field. Vetspon can be used in all surgical procedures except urologic and ophthalmic procedures, the company adds.
The product can be used dry or moistened with sterile saline. The product will absorb biologically over a four-to-six week period if left in the body.
