Treats were sold nationwide in Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores.
Salix Animal Health is voluntarily recalling its Good ‘n' Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to a press release issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sampling conducted at the Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of the bacteria in the product. The company initially recalled just the tested lot and then expanded the recall to include others made in the same time frame. This recall affects the Good ‘n' Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks only; no other Salix products are affected.
The recalled treats were distributed nationwide to Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar retail stores, according to the release. The product is packaged in a 2.8-ounce bag with an item code number of 82247 stamped on the back. The expiration date ranges from February to July 2018. The UPC code is 0 91093 82247 1.
Pet owners should look for the item number and expiration date listed on the package to see if their product is subject to the recall. Those with products subject to the recall are urged to dispose of it or return it for a full refund, the release states. For more information or a refund, call Salix Animal Health at 1-800-338-4896.
