Philadelphia-At presstime, two top veterinary associations planned to meet July 26 at the Philadelphia Airport Hotel to hash out key issues related to certifying the educational equivalency programs currently in place for foreign veterinary medical graduates.
For four years, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) andthe American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) have battledto hold rights to examine foreign graduates. AVMA offers the only nationallyaccepted means for examining foreign graduate with its Educational Commissionfor Foreign Veterinary Graduates, in place since the 1950s. AAVSB challengesthe protocol with its Program for the Assessment of Veterinary EducationEquivalence (PAVE).
The two associations currently are exploring the feasibility of creatinga single autonomous regulatory group.
