Award representatives say strong print titles, award-winning dvm360 site, and recently launched app all exemplify best practices. (And her winning personality doesn't hurt either.)
On March 16, Advanstar Veterinary Group’s Content Director Marnette Denell Falley was presented with the McAllister Editorial Fellowship award, given by ABM annually for the past 18 years to foster the study of business media. As this year's McAllister Fellow, Falley will lecture as part of the Medill Magazine Project at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
"I'm so incredibly proud of our innovative content team," Falley says. "I believe it's because of their day-to-day achievements that I was chosen for this incredible recognition."
She says she plans to talk with students at Medill about how to most effectively serve an audience across a diversity of media. "I particularly want to talk about how journalists can use all the platforms at their disposal — including print, web, live events and mobile platforms — to tell a story or educate, and about how we can use the strengths of each platform to help our readers in their day to day lives.
"It's fun to think about the cutting-edge ideas we've developed just for veterinarians spreading to all kinds of consumer and business-to-business media."
Falley was recognized as part of the festivities surrounding the American Business Media's Neal Awards ceremony. The Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards are considered the Pulitzer Prize of business-to-business journalism, and dvm360.com, DVM Newsmagazine and dvm360's iPad app won three coveted national journalism awards in this year's competition.
dvm360.com won the Best Website category for the third year in a row. The dvm360 for iPad app—launched in July 2011—won the award for Best Use of Mobile. And DVM Newsmagazine was awarded Best Single Issue of a Newspaper/News Tabloid for its July 2011 issue, an honor the publication has won four years in a row.
