HSVMA will award 5 scholarships to veterinary students attending AVMA-accredited veterinary schools across the globe
The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA) announced it is now accepting applications for its 2023 Compassionate Care Veterinary Student Scholarships (CCVS). HSVMA will award $10,000 to 5 veterinary students in either their first, second, or third year at an AVMA-accredited school in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, or the United Kingdom.
According to an organizational release, the scholarships will go to students who show an interest in animal welfare, rights, or protection issues and represents a commitment to equitable access and inclusion within the veterinary industry through service or lived experience.1 To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a good academic and GPA history and submit 2 letters of recommendation, one must be written by a faculty member or clinician employed and the applicant's veterinary school. Applicants must also demonstrate an interest in animal welfare and service or experience with equitable access to care for underserved communities and provide expected debt burden.
Special consideration for the CCVS will be given to applicants who demonstrate that they volunteer, work within, or serve marginalized and underserved communities and applicants who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.1
To apply, students must join the HSVMA as a student members. June 30, 2023, is the deadline to apply, and scholarships will be awarded to the 5 recipients by August 31, 2023.
