IDEXX adds to digital imaging product line

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. introduces the IDEXX-CR System, a computed radiography system customized specifically for companion animal veterinary medicine. The system generates digital radiograph images that can be used in ways that are impossible with conventional X-ray film, the company says. Used with the clinics existing X-ray machine, the system uses a plate reader to generate a digital image that can be enhanced via IDEXX-PACSժ picture archiving and communication system software. The software allows the user to enhance patient images through species-specific algorithms, magnify regions, annotate and measure areas of interest for medical records and send images via e-mail. Unique image enhancement capability allows the user to adjust the contrast of a single image to optimally view both soft tissue and bone without having to retake the image, the company says. With the IDEXX-CR System, the X-ray image is generated without the inconvenience and environmental consequences of film or a processor, eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals, bulky film storage, costly maintenance fees and a darkroom, the company adds.
