Maitake Products, Inc. (MPI) launches its flagship immune-enhancing product Maitake D-Fraction for the pet market under the name Grifron-Pet DVM Fraction. The bioactive compound D-fraction was launched in 1995 for human use and has since become one of the leading beta glucan products used to stimulate immune system functioning, the company says. Recently, several scientific studies were done with Maitake D-Fraction to test its efficacy on house pets, the company adds. According to MPI, an in-vitro study on three types of cultured canine cancer cells (lymphoma, connective tissue and mammary gland) showed D-fraction was highly effective in inhibiting cancer cell growth in all three cases. Another study on dogs, following surgery and/or chemotherapy for different types of cancer, showed that when given D-fraction in their food these dogs generally displayed improved appetite and improved quality of life as judged by their owners, the company adds. As a result of the positive results obtained from these studies, MPI introduces D-fraction as a product for house pets. Grifron-Pet DVM Fraction is available for veterinarians via direct order.
