Livestock Salmonellosis vaccine

Agri Laboratories Ltd. and Epitopix LLC introduce a new livestock vaccine against salmonellosis.

Agri Laboratories Ltd. and Epitopix LLC introduce a new livestock vaccine against salmonellosis. This is the first vaccine of its kind in the global animal health industry, the company says.

Siderophore receptors and porins (SRP) technology, used in the vaccines manufacture, incorporates purified bacterial proteins in vaccine formulations. By formulating vaccines with highly purified extracts of SRP proteins, the host bacteria is blocked from taking up iron, killing the pathogens, the company explains.

Because SRPs are similar across different serotypes of bacteria, vaccines created with SRP technology provide cross-protection against multiple strains of bacteria, including many common Salmonella serotypes.

Another advantage of the SRP technology is that the process of extracting the SRP proteins creates a highly purified vaccine that contains very little total endotoxin, the company says. This reportedly causes lower incidence of reactions than the traditional Gram-negative vaccines.
