Former Veterinary Economics editor Kristi Reimer named to lead print and digital veterinary news properties.
Lenexa, Kan. — After 24 years, Daniel R. Verdon, editor-in-chief of DVM Newsmagazine and news channel content director for dvm360.com, has left the position to become group editor and lead the digital strategy for two human healthcare publications owned by Advanstar Communications: Medical Economics and Managed Healthcare Executive. Kristi Reimer, editor of Advanstar sister publication Veterinary Economics, was named editor-in-chief of DVM and channel director for veterinary news content.
Verdon, a graduate of The Ohio State University, joined DVM in 1988 and by 2004 had worked his way up to the editor-in-chief role. Under his leadership, DVM Newsmagazine achieved and maintained No. 1 status in terms of professional readership scores, as verified by independent auditing organizations. Verdon and the magazine received a number of awards, including seven Jesse H. Neal Awards granted by the American Business Media (ABM), often referred to as the “Pulitzer Prize” of business-to-business communications. He and his editorial team were named finalists for this award another six times.
In 2008 Verdon was named ABM’s McAllister Editorial Fellow, a post that aims to advance the study of business-to-business journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. The award, underwritten by the American Business Media Foundation, is granted to one journalist in the country each year. (Advanstar Veterinary’s group content director Marnette Falley received the honor this year).
Verdon’s contributions to the veterinary profession include showcasing novel market research, moderating panel discussions on top professional issues, conducting countless one-on-one interviews with key veterinary influencers, and helping convert the profession’s veterinary news efforts to a digital environment.
Veterinary Economics editor Kristi Reimer joined the Veterinary Economics team in 2007 and was named editor-in-chief in 2008. During her years as editor the magazine was named a Jesse H. Neal Award finalist three times and received numerous gold awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors. Reimer also helped expand the magazine’s readership to online and mobile delivery formats. Before that she worked as managing editor in Advanstar’s Custom Veterinary Media department for six years. Reimer holds two bachelor’s degrees from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., and a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
Brendan Howard, former managing editor of Advanstar Veterinary group, was named editor-in-chief of Veterinary Economics. Howard joined the Advanstar team in 2004.
