Denver, Colo. - 11/8/07 - The Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) is now accepting 2008 Veterinary Student Scholar (VSS) applications to help address a critical need for veterinary science research and professionals in the field.
Awarding stipends of up to $4,000, the MAF VSS program is designed to give veterinary students exposure to research opportunities in hopes that they will pursue this career path.
Part of MAF's overall initative to train and mentor more veteriary scientists, the program gets veterinary students involved in research targeted at enhancing the health and welfare of companion animals and wildlife or special species. The effort also responds to the National Research Council of the National Academies' contention that research pursuits are on a severe decline.
Not limited to U.S. colleges, VSS awards are open to all first- through third-year veterinary students from an accredited college or school of veterinary medicine in their country. The application deadline is Feb. 1, 2008.
