Funding will go towards a Canada-based researcher studying early detection and/or prevention of canine cancer to achieve better outcomes for dogs impacted by this disease.
Morris Animal Foundation, in cooperation with Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu Canada, will grant CAD 52,500 (est. USD 41,777) to a Canada-based researcher exploring the early detection and/or prevention of canine cancer.
“Cancers continue to take the lives of too many of our dogs, and the sooner we can detect these diseases early or even prevent them the better,” said Janet Patterson-Kane, BVSc, PhD, chief scientific officer at Morris Animal Foundation, in an organizational release.
"We are grateful for the generous funding support of Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu, and for their long-term commitment toward fighting pet cancer," added Patterson-Kane.
According to the release, cancer is a leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 2. Since 1962, Morris Animal Foundation has donated to over 300 cancer studies, invested nearly $40 million, and continuously contributes to the cause, an effort which includes the ample support of organizations such as Blue Buffalo Company and Pet Valu.
“The team of Animal Care Experts at Pet Valu are happy to raise awareness of and support this very meaningful cause, and we are so thankful to the Devoted Pet Lovers who helped us support the fight against pet cancers,” disclosed Tanbir Grover, chief marketing and digital officer at Pet Valu.
Grant applications officially opened on October 6, 2021, and will close on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 4:59 pm ET. Canada-based researchers are eligible to apply, and the project must be completed in Canada.
