Schaumburg, Ill. - Beginning June 25, Dr. Karen E. Felsted will take over as the chief executive officer for the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues (NCVEI).
Felsted spent more than a decade in accounting and business management before earning her degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1996.
Upon graduation, she began working in small animal and emergency medicine.
More recently, she has worked at several accounting firms dealing with veterinary financial issues.
Felsted helped develop the NCVEI online benchmarking models that allow veterinary practices to compare economic data with averages and from year to year. She also was key in the design of the initial tools for companion animal and equine practices.
NCVEI's mission "to improve the economic base of the veterinary profession, ensuring that the delivery of veterinary care and service meets the needs of society," fits well with Felsted's, who says she will work to keep the veterinary profession economically strong.
