ATLANTA —Merck plans to introduce a new edition of the Merck Veterinary Manual on Oct. 10.
According to Cynthia M. Kahn, BA, MA, editor of the Merck Veterinary Manual for Merial, the update will be loaded with new information. In fact, more than 400 veterinary experts from 19 countries contributed to the latest edition.
Since its introduction in 1955, the Merck Veterinary Manual has been a staple in addressing diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in companion, food, exotic and laboratory animals.
The new edition will feature hundreds of full-color graphics, including illustrations, photomicrographs and radiographic, ultrasonographic and endoscopic images, the company reports. Every chapter has been reviewed and updated to reflect the latest findings in medicine and clinical practice.
Ten new chapters have been added to this edition including information on cloning of domestic animals, complementary and alternative veterinary medicine, and diseases and disorders like equine metabolic syndrome, disorders of potassium metabolism, seminal vesiculitis in bulls and pseudopregnancy in goats. New information on African hedgehogs made it this year and reflects a growing popularity of this exotic species.
The manual will be available on Oct. 10 and is priced at $60. Veterinarians will be able to order through merckbooks.com or by calling (877) 762-2974.
