Washington, N.J. - 2/27/08 - Owners are spending more, but fewer clients are coming in, New Jersey practitioners say.

That's an anecdotal report echoed by veterinarians practicing throughout the state during four roundtable discussions put on by the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA).

"I think we will see a drain in client numbers certainly in the next decade," NJVMA Executive Director Rick Alampi predicts. "We're looking to explore the overall environment of veterinary practices."

The trend already is being tackled by the American Association of Feline Practitioners, which is attempting to reverse a decline in feline veterinary visits by creating care guidelines. See DVM Newsmagazine's March cover article "Feline Decline" for more information.
