New guidelines give equine practitioners information on containing outbreaks.
New guidelines from the Infectious Disease Task Force of the American Association of Equine Practitioners give veterinarians and horse caretakers information on containing outbreaks. Highlights of the plan (available at aaep.org) include biosecurity instructions in English and Spanish, recommendations for pre outbreak plans, and procedures for handling specific diseases after a diagnosis has been made. The task force stressed that veterinarians on scene are the most critical to stop outbreaks before they start.
