Ohio State opens large animal clinic
MARYSVILLE, OHIO - 8/23/05 - The Ohio State University College (OSU) of Veterinary Medicine opened a 10,000-square-foot facility for ambulatory veterinary care. The practice serves more than 900 clients in 13 counties and provides complete medical and surgical services as well as herd-oriented production medicine services.
MARYSVILLE, OHIO - 8/23/05 - The Ohio State University College (OSU) of Veterinary Medicine opened a 10,000-square-foot facility for ambulatory veterinary care. The practice serves more than 900 clients in 13 counties and provides complete medical and surgical services as well as herd-oriented production medicine services.
The practice is a training ground for veterinary students; as part of their fourth-year clinical assignments, veterinary students participate in the Marysville Ambulatory rotation, which offers in-depth, hands-on experience in large- and small-scale livestock operation medicine.
"There is a national shortage of large animal veterinarians. The Marysville practice and the required clinical rotation are part of our college's commitment to large animal medicine and rural veterinary practice," says Dr. Thomas Rosol, OSU dean.
The facility houses a surgery suite, pharmacy, reception area, conference room, laboratory and housing for veterinary students. Services include vaccination and deworming programs, herd-based reproduction programs, herd performance evaluation and consultation, milking system analysis, milk quality programs, ration evaluation, nutritional consultation, general surgery and pre-purchase exams, among others.
Drs. Bimbo Welker, Richard Meiring, Lowell Midla and Martey Masterson serve as faculty veterinarians.
