Veterinarian Kurt Schrader won his race for U.S. Representative from Oregon's 5th Congressional District Nov. 4.

-Oregon DVM Kurt Schrader won his race for U.S. Representative from Oregon's 5th Congressional District in Tuesday's election by a large margin.
Schrader, a Democrat, received 96,114 votes, or 56.5 percent, according to unofficial results. His main opponent, Republican Mike Erickson, garnered 62,049 votes, or 36.5 percent.
Four other candidates also ran, but collectively gathered a only small percentage of the vote.
A farmer and veterinarian, Schrader was endorsed by several organizations, including the American Medical Association and the Humane Society.
He served as a state representative in Oregon from 1997 to 2003. Since 2003, he has been a state senator, serving as Oregon's budget chief.
Official election results will be certified Dec. 4.
