ComboCare from Farnam Horse Products is a newly released over-the-counter combination dewormer. ComboCare dewormer kills ascarids, tapeworms, small strongyles and bots. ComboCare controls encysted small strongyles in the gut wall, where they die and dissolve without causing any further damage, the company says. The product suppresses strongyle egg reappearance for 12 weeks. At recommended doses, ComboCare delivers 2.5 mg praziquantel per kilogram of horse body weight. Praziquantel inhibits the tapeworm larvae from adhering to the intestinal wall, the company says. Field product evaluations show it more than 99 percent effective against the tapeworm, Anoplocephala perfoliata. ComboCare is approved for use in horses and ponies six months of age and older.
