Portland, Ore. - 9/23/07 - John Payne is the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Banfield, The Pet Hospital, succeeding veterinary pioneer Scott Campbell, DVM, who retired as CEO in early July 2007.
After Campbell's retirement this summer, Payne was appointed president, chief operating officer (COO) and acting CEO of Banfield. "I am sincerely honored to serve as the second CEO for Banfield, the nation's premier pet hospital," Payne says. "These are exciting times in veterinary healthcare; I look forward to continued work with Dr. Campbell and other industry leaders as we chart the future course of pet healthcare."
Since joining Banfield in 2005 after serving as president for Bayer's Animal Health Division for North America, Payne held the positions of senior vice president of practice development and executive vice president.
"John has been providing exceptional leadership for Banfield in key strategic areas including our industry partnerships and medical technology, as well as veterinary recruitment," says Campbell, who serves as chairman of Banfield's Board of Directors. "With more than 33 years' experience in the pet healthcare industry and a record of surpassing goals and growing business, John is a great asset to our practice."
Campbell, Banfield's CEO for 22 years, will continue in the role of chairman of the board of directors. He will focus on strengthening key industry relationships and advancing the industry's adoption of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges' Foresight Report recommendations regarding changes in veterinary education, licensing and recruitment.
"John Payne is an excellent leader who is deeply committed to high quality pet healtcare," says Ellis Rowe, group president of petcare, Mars, Incorporated. "Through John's leadership, we are confident he will continue to forge strong working relationships with PetSmart, our suppliers, the veterinarian community and universities to provide pets and pet parents with new levels of service and care."
