-- Purina is giving free horse feed to a family in Missouri who take care of six children and six rescue horses, as well as a family in Texas who volunteer with a therapy riding program. Both families are in upcoming episodes of the ABC television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Purina is donating five tons of horse feed to Chris and Niki Hampton in Springfield, Mo., who own six rescue horses and care for their two children and four nieces and nephews.
The show’s producers and builders will build a new home for the Hamptons as well as a six-stall barn with an equine facility, a tack room, a feed room and greenhouse.
Purina also is donating a year’s worth of Strategy Horse Feed to Carlton and Susan Marshall in Dallas, Texas. The Marshalls have two children and volunteer with Therapeutic Riding of Texas, a horseback-riding therapy program for children and adults with mental and physical challenges.
Carlton is a former police officer whose career ended when he was shot in the neck, damaging his spinal cord and leaving him wheelchair-bound and hard of hearing.
The Marshalls also are getting a new barn along with their new home, complete with hydraulic lift to make it easier for Carlton to care for his horses. The respective episodes air Oct. 4 and Oct. 18 on ABC.
