St. Louis, Mo.
-- Purina Horse Feed has donated $10,000 to help repair hurricane damage to a horse research center at Southern Illinois University -- Carbondale (SIUC).
The hurricane did more than $450,000 worth of damage to the horse research center’s barns, feed mills, and miles of fencing surrounding horse pastures. The 50 horses housed at the center during the hurricane were unharmed.
The 2,000-acre farm system is crucial to the work of the university’s Equine Science Program, according to director Dr. Sheryl King.
Dr. King says the Horse Program Relief Fund is still seeking donations. She can be reached at (618) 453-1771 or sking@siu.edu.
