The horse presented with high fever and was unable to stand, Dr. Anthony Verderosa, lead veterinarian for the New York Racing Association, told Thoroughbred Times.
Equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) was listed as a possible cause of the illness.Results from blood samples are expected tomorrow.
The gelding, Smell My Carrots, was located in Barn 38. No horses in the stable will be allowed to race or be transported until the quarantine is lifted, according to reports.
