Walter Brown, RVTg, VTS, ECC: There's a relatively short list of differentials for red mucous membranes. I always tell my technicians whenever you see those red mucous membranes when a patient presents you should often put sepsis at the top of your list for ruling out. Other conditions that can lead to these red mucous membranes are things like arsenic if . . . a dog [is exposed to arsenic cyanide], carbon monoxide is also one of the ones that we often see with red mucous membranes.
