Biopure Corp. now offers a 60-ml bag for its oxygen therapeutic Oxyglobin to provide veterinarians more dosing flexibility when treating anemia in small dogs or those requiring less or short-term oxygen-carrying support. The move proves cost efficient for veterinarians and clients, the company says. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Oxyglobin in 1998 for the treatment of anemia in dogs by increasing systemic oxygen content and improving the clinical signs associated with anemia. Oxyglobin is an oxygen therapeutic, or drug, consisting of chemically stabilized bovine hemoglobin formulated in a balanced salt solution, the company says. This stabilized hemoglobin circulates directly in plasma when infused, increasing oxygen diffusion to the bodys tissues, the company adds.
