In small business (and veterinarians) we trust

Americans put more confidence in small businesses than churches and government.

In today's market, you may feel like small businesses, such as your own veterinary practice, are getting the short end of the stick. And you wouldn't be alone. According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, 69 percent of respondents say small businesses get less attention than they should from the federal government. But what your veterinary practice may be lacking from public officials, it's making up in public opinion. (Click here to see who Americans say are getting too much federal attention.)

According to the same study, 71 percent of Americans, across all political parties, view small businesses more positively than churches, colleges, and their own government. (Click here to America's top 10 most trusted institutions.) The study didn't delve into exactly why Americans are feeling the love for small businesses, although it's no secret why clients love their veterinarians, but it may have something to do with employment opportunities. In a recent article, USA Today columnist and entrepreneur author Rhonda Abrams notes that small companies create 65 percent of all new jobs.

Whatever the reason, give yourself a pat on the back. Your hard work and honesty is not going unnoticed-even if you're not receiving a government bailout.
