Rockville, Md.-

Equine supplements have been taking some federal heat of late, with questions of contents, the supplements' claims, and how they are manufactured.

In a recent edition of TheHorse.com, the news source reports the FDA, in conjunction with state regulatory officials, is prompting a crackdown on these products.

The problem is that unless the FDA approves an ingredient for use in supplements or animal feed, it is illegal. Likewise, TheHorse.com reports that animal products are not allowed to make medical claims unless they are licensed animal drugs.

If the manfacturers of equine supplements do not gain legal approval of their ingredients, many may soon be banned from sale to the public.
