Novartis introduces Clostridium perfringens Type A Toxoid, a vaccine to help battle diarrhea associated with Clostridium perfringens Type A.
Novartis introduces Clostridium perfringens Type A Toxoid, a vaccine to help battle diarrhea associated with Clostridium perfringens Type A.
The product is available under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) conditional license for use in swine, the company says.
Control of this disease is important because diarrhea in the first couple of days of life can cause lower weaning weights, which directly affects survival in the nursery and growth, the company adds.
Environmental factors including change of season and a drafty room can attribute to contraction of C. perfringens Type A.
The bacteria has an unpredictable nature, the company adds, but the vaccine is safe to use in healthy swine including bred gilts, sows and feeder pigs.
