This new collaborative membership marks a historical first for the AAVMC
The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) announced that the University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Science in South Africa became a new AAVMC collaborative member, making the college the first member institution on the African continent.
“We’re pleased to welcome the University of Pretoria as a member as we continue to expand our international footprint,” said Andrew T. Maccabe, DVM, AAVMC, and chief executive officer at AAVMC.
“The AAVMC continues to grow internationally and now includes member institutions from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Each of our members strengthens our impact, enriches our global perspective, and brings the benefit of diverse expertise,” he continued.
The University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Sciences is best known for its quality of community engagement, research, training, and services. The university's faculty is also striving to improve the lives of South Africans by benefiting from the growth of South Africa’s argo-economy and better nutrition.
According to the release,1 a collaborative membership with the AAVMC is available to any college or school of veterinary medicine outside of the United States and Canada which is recognized by the country's government and not currently seeking accreditation from the Council on Education (COE).
