Latin American veterinarians with plans to practice in the United States are one step closer to the border via participation in a distance-education program, TheHorse.com reports.
The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine is collaborating with Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale to offer distance education to foreign veterinarians.
The 12-week program, currently under way, has a series of videotaped lectures in which UF veterinarians are teaching foreign veterinary graduates how to prepare for the written portion of the U.S. licensing examination.
About 30 of the course participants are from Cuba. Others are from Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and Puerto Rico. Topics include small and large animal medicine and surgery, bacteriology, pathology, immunology, pharmacology, radiology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, and foreign animal diseases.
Class participants will take the licensure examination in April.
