Alberta, Canada -- A $5 million grant has been awarded to a team of veterinary researchers in Canada to uncover the causes of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

-- A $5 million grant has been awarded to a team of veterinary researchers in Canada to uncover the causes of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
IBD affects many species, including humans, cattle, sheep and dogs, says Herman Barkema, DVM. Barkema, on the faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, will lead the study and a team of 22 researchers from several Canadian universities.
The study is funded by the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research and will focus on the interaction between genes, microbes and environmental factors to see what role they play in IBD.
