What tasks do technicians do?

Technicians, owners, and associates each share their view of which technician tasks are delegated in a practice. The figure below shows technicians believe they're doing more of these tasks than practice owners report. So do practice owners fail to recognize all of the tasks their technicians assume? Are doctors holding back tasks, or do technicians fail to see the procedures their doctors are still performing?

“If you hire high-quality technicians, you ought to be able to delegate more tasks to them,” says Karen Felsted, CPA, MS, DVM, CVPM, a Firstline Editorial Advisory Board member and CEO of the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues in Chicago. “This way you're running more efficiently. You're not having veterinarians cleaning ears, drawing blood, and anesthetizing pets.”
