Fort Dodge Animal Health introduces two formulations of the antibacterial Vetisulid (sodium sulfachlorpyridazine) for livestock.
Vetisulid comes in injectable intravenous solution and a water-soluble powder formulation, which can be used to mass medicate calves, the company says.
Both formulas comply with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, according to the company.
Vetisulid is effective against up to 91 percent of E. coli strains and up to 99 percent of E. coli isolates.
The product works quickly in the bloodstream, reaching therapeutic levels within one hour.
Animals can be processed seven days after receiving an oral treatment or five days after the last intravenous treatment in calves.
