Schaumburg, Ill.
-- Veterinarians do not generate enough unused pharmaceuticals to warrant inclusion in an EPA survey on disposal methods of unused drugs, according to the AVMA.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) included a questionnaire pertaining to veterinary hospitals in the draft study of the upcoming survey.
Dr. Lyle P. Vogel, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) assistant executive vice president, responded by sending a 16-page document to the EPA suggesting removing veterinary facilities from the survey.
Along with being time consuming and economically burdensome, the survey would not provide the information the EPA was looking for, according to the document.Full comments can be found on the AVMA's regulatory advocacy page.
The AVMA is working with the EPA on a Web-based Veterinary Environmental Compliance and Assistance document.
