Taking the BizQuiz? This is the answer to question 1 of "Is your practice a great place to work?"
1) C—No way!
If doctors are handling nondoctor tasks—anything that isn’t diagnosis, prescription, charting, and surgeries—your practice is woefully inefficient. Unless the doctor has superpowers, he or she needs to recognize that many people around the practice are more skilled at client education, blood drawing, bookkeeping, and a host of other skills. If you’re a doctor, Dr. Craig Woloshyn, a Veterinary Economics Editorial Advisory Board member and owner of Sun Dog Veterinary Consulting, asks doctors to remember: Even though the gods of medicine tremble at your healing powers, you’re not perfect. If you’re a team member, consider approaching your practice manager, associate, or practice owner about taking on some of the duties you can handle—or getting the training to make that delegation possible.
